Top-ranked Chinese Lin Shidong had his journey snapped by compatriot Liang Jingkun at the World Table Tennis Championships on Friday.
The 20-year-old, who had entered three events in Doha, suffered a seven-set (5-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7) defeat to the 28-year-old and fifth-ranked Liang in the men's singles quarterfinals.
Liang will now face the winner between World Cup champion Hugo Calderano of Brazil and An Jae-hyun of South Korea.
The women's singles quarterfinals will see Chinese players clash with Japanese on four fronts, with fourth-seeded Chinese Wang Yidi already eliminated by eighth seed Mima Ito 4-1.
