Crystal Palace soar past Villa into FA Cup final

Crystal Palace gave a class in counter-attacking football to stun Aston Villa and qualify for the FA Cup final with a 3-0 win on Saturday evening.

Ismaila Sarr was Palace's hero with an assist for Eberechi Eze to open the scoring, before doubling Palace's lead after 58 minutes and adding a third in injury time.

The win could have been even more convincing but Jean-Philippe Mateta sent a 49th minute penalty the wrong side of the post.

Manchester City faces Nottingham Forest in Sunday's second semi-final.

In the Premier League games played on Saturday, Newcastle United won 3-0 at home to Ipswich Town to move third in the table and condemn Ipswich to relegation.

Ben Johnson was sent off for Ipswich in the 37th minute as Newcastle piled on the pressure and Alexander Isak put Newcastle ahead from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of injury time.

Dan Burn doubled Newcastle's lead 11 minutes into the second half with a powerful header following Keiran Trippier's cross to all but confirm Ipswich's return to the Championship, before William Osula made it 3-0.

Chelsea climbs to fifth thanks to Nicolas Jackson's 27th minute goal that gave his side a 1-0 win at home to Everton, with Jackson hitting a powerful shot from just outside the Everton area to win the game.

Everton didn't win its first corner until the 76th minute, but Chelsea needed Robert Sanchez to make a flying save three minutes from time to deny Dwight McNeil an unlikely equalizer.

Brighton produced a late comeback to win 3-2 at home to West Ham and keep its European hopes alive, with Kaoru Mitoma and Carlos Baleba netting in the 89th and 93rd minutes to give the home side three vital points.

Wolverhampton Wanderers won 3-0 at home to already relegated Leicester City, with Matheus Cunha, Jorgen Strand-Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes giving Wolves a comfortable win.

Finally Fulham won 2-1 away to a Southampton side that remains in danger of going down with the joint worst record in Premier League history.
